Challenges
  • Multiple teams were working on multiple enterprise applications to design layouts, update content, build PDF, update metadata, review and publish the publication
  • The Publication Process that was created earlier was following a waterfall model that could have potentially blocked further steps
  • Publications as PDF are susceptible to accessibility issues, and thereby would fail to conform to WCAG 2.0 Accessibility Regulations
  • All in all, absence of a web application that can combine the efforts of multiple teams and their functions, thereby reducing time, effort and costs, while publishing the publication as HTML web pages that conform to WCAG 2.0 Accessibility Regulations
Solution
  • A web application program called Publication Management System has been developed by Sudoboat, that provides the users a Digital Publication Editor which follows the WYSIWYG approach
  • This system has eased out the creation and customization processes, and includes various functions that was followed in their earlier approach
  • The system features Hotlinks for visual representation of metadata to facilitate access
  • An in-built publication review and approval process enable reviewers and publishers to review the work of content creators, before publishing online
  • The published Digital Publications are accessible via a unique web URL/endpoint, which will be consumed by another second application that works as a HTML Publication Reader
  • The reader is developed specifically for the purpose of allowing readers to view the publication across multiple channels (Mobile, Laptop, etc)
Outcome
  • Efficiency and productivity have been improved and the cost for Publication Creation is reduced by 20% compared to the earlier process
  • Fixed conformation with WCAG 2.0 Accessibility Regulations
